About Dr. Erika Steinwand

Licensed Clinical Psychologist serving Hawaii

I immigrated from the Philippines as a child, grew up in San Jose, California and received a bachelor’s degree in Human Development from UC Davis. I hold a Master of Arts degree in Intercultural Studies with an emphasis in Children-at-Risk from Fuller Seminary and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from Fuller School of Psychology & Marriage and Family Therapy. Before my career shift into psychology, I worked for 10 years on the island of Kauai in non-profit, social service and school-based organizations. I have experience working with individuals across the lifespan including children, adolescents and adults. Outside of the therapy chair, you can usually find me engaging in outdoor activities with my partner.

I provide telehealth psychological services within Hawaii.

Aloha! I’m Mihoko, or you may call me Miho (pronounced mee-ho). I was born and raised in Japan and received my professional training in the US. I am fluent in Japanese and English and proficient in American Sign Language.

In my practice, I see adults of all ages navigating life’s challenges and am committed to providing unified and continuous support with compassion, understanding, clarity and purpose.

As a licensed mental health counselor with over 20 years of experience, I specialize in providing compassionate individual counseling for adults facing depression, anxiety, trauma, grief & loss, identity search, adjustment, guilt, shame, anger and loneliness.

In addition to my master’s degree in counseling, I am certified as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC), with a specialty in empowering individuals with disabilities to achieve their personal, social, educational and vocational goals. As a CRC, I offer therapy to individuals who are blind, deaf, hard of hearing, as well as to others who are psysically, mentally, emotionally and cognitively challenged in society.

Recognizing that no single model fits all, I draw from a range of evidence-based and depth-oriented modalities, including compassion-focused, humanistic, existential, somatic-oriented, mindfulness-based, solution-focused and cognitive-behavioral therapies. My work focuses on uncovering the patterns and beliefs that keep clients stuck and guide them toward meaningful, lasting change.
